Smiles all round as GCSE pupils open pleasing set of exam results

Nearly 20 per cent of students passed with grades A*-A and 70 per cent of GCSEs were at grades A*-C or above.

Headmaster Jeremgy Gladwin said: “My congratulations to all our pupils on exceeding their expectations by working so very hard and responding so well to the excellent teaching of our dedicated team of professionals”.

In separate sciences, 56 per cent of pupils gained A* and A, which enhances the school’s reputation for its excellence in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects.

“Our proud standing as a STEM centre of excellence is evidenced in the results for STEM subjects, including 60% of chemistry students who achieved A*/A grades and 78% of statistics students achieved an A*/A and the outstanding pass rate in biology and physics, 97% and 94% respectively”.

Fifty-four per cent of students gained 5 A*-C including English and Maths which matched the school’s outstanding results from past year with 75 per cent gaining 5 GCSEs A*-C.

The overwhelming majority of boys will be remaining at the school to study A-levels.

The standard of students across the city achieving grade C or better in both maths and either English Language or English literature has been achieved by 55% of students this year.

Headteacher Simon Ellis said: “We knew the pupils were good but I have to say they’ve smashed all previous school records and their performance will be one of the best in Wales”.

This means Haringey schools, on average, scored 14 per cent above the national average in English and nine per cent above in maths.
