Smith, Chiefs roll over Texans
Starting quarterback Brian Hoyer struggled in his first start as a Texan, committing two turnovers in the first half.

O’Brien yanked Hoyer late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Peters’ interception came partly due to the Chiefs pass rush, as Justin Houston was relentless all day.
The Chiefs made news just hours before kickoff, as newly acquired lineman Jah Reid started in place of right tackle and former number one overall pick Eric Fisher, who was sidelined with an ankle injury.
The Chiefs head coach said he communicated consistently with Fisher throughout the week, and the offensive tackle indicated he wanted to fight through it, even practicing Friday.
Mallett spent 2014 with the Texans, beginning the season as Ryan Fitzpatrick’s backup after the Texans traded for him on August. 31.
Of those 10 dropbacks, Hoyer attempted six passes, completed two and was sacked four times. Kansas City gets their first shot Thursday to deal a major blow to the Broncos four year Division reign. Watt was the only Texans player to get to Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, sacking him twice.
Kansas City’s second field goal of that quarter came two plays later to extend the lead to 20-6. Clowney starred at South Carolina, where his biggest highlight was made in the Outback Bowl against Michigan for an eternal loop.
The big question with Mallett, however, is his consistency, and this was also evident on Sunday. “We put our offense in a great position, and they did the rest”. “They were on the field too much”. He lacked confidence on downfield throws, and also was unable to take care of the football.
It seems as though the quarterback competition is alive and well in Houston, despite the coaching staff’s statements to the contrary.
Mallett took over for Hoyer with just over six minutes left in the game and the Texans trailing 27-9.
MAKE QUICK READS & GET RID OF THE BALL: This has been another portion of Mallett’s drawbacks.
I’m not saying that Brian Hoyer isn’t capable of being all these things, but it’s worth pointing out that he has been none of these things so far as an National Football League starter with a 56 percent completion percentage as a starter, and around a 1-to-1 touchdown to interception ratio. Mallett was 5-of-5 for 59 yards and 1 touchdown when trying to connect with his star.

For Chicago, Jay Cutler completed 18 of his 36 pass attempts for 225 yards and a touchdown in the defeat, while Matt Forte carried the ball for 141 yards and a score. They do not beat themselves and I must say with what they have at running back in Jamal Charles who had a quiet game today, but Jeremy Maclin and a healthy Travis Kelce they have an offense which could very well be top 5. Each has had success elsewhere and both were brought to KC to win now, and the patience of fans may be wearing thin if the Chiefs fail to contend again this season.
