Another wildfire about 300 miles up the coast in Central California has destroyed six homes.
It remained just 10 percent contained on Monday.
A huge wildfire in the Los Angeles area spread another 2,000 acres overnight and appeared to have killed a motorist whose remains were found in a charred vehicle in the fire’s path, officials said on Sunday. Authorities also urged those who do not need to return home immediately to wait until later in the evening to help with traffic congestion.
Planes were unable to make drops over the fire for a long stretch of the afternoon, but helicopters were releasing retardant around the perimeter.
“They were surprised to see citizens there”, Osby said. They were back at home Sunday, “breathing a big sigh of relief”, she said. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, there was no indication his death was a criminal event.
“We don’t want to lose any more lives”, said County Supervisor Mike Antonovich as he implored residents to cooperate with evacuation orders. Officials are concerned about weather conditions, as winds are expected to remain in the 25 to 30 miles per hour range Monday evening. “They don’t actually have to walk up and physically put the fire on the ground”. He said calmer winds were helping to keep the fire stationary. Four of those structures were occupied by Forest Service employees, and three of those employees were firefighting personnel. He said the areas of Sand Canyon and Via Princessa are now being checked and hoped to repopulate those areas sometime Monday.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Monday that the blaze has forced evacuations and is threatening 1,650 mountain homes in the region. Two massive wildfires raged in tinder-dry California hills and canyons Sunday, leaving thousands of homes evacuated and authorities to investigate a burned body found in a neighborhood swept by flames.
About 900 firefighters were battling the blaze in temperatures exceeding 41 degrees Celsius, aided by 28 water-dropping helicopters and eight fixed-winged aircraft. Two firefighters were reported to have suffered minor injuries in the firefight as of Monday morning.
Authorities say 18 homes have been destroyed and an additional 1,500 are threatened as crews battle a massive wildfire in wooded canyons north of Los Angeles. – All residents along Little Tujunga Canyon Road from the Wildlife Way Station to Sand Canyon Road and Placerita Canyon Road.
More than ten thousand people have been evacuated in Santa Clarita Valley. An evacuation center is opened at the Carmel Middle School in the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Evacuated pets can be taken to county shelters in Lancaster, Agoura, Castaic and Palmdale or to trailers next to evacuation centers.

“When we evacuate those areas, it’s really important that people don’t try and re-enter those areas”, Johnson said.
