LibDem MSP, Jim Hume, brought the Bill to Holyrood and he said it would add to efforts to improve the health of children in Scotland. The concentration of harmful particles in cars is significant – around 11 times denser than the smoke in bars, and we’ve already legislated against smoking in those.

They have also said that about a fifth of 13 and 15-year-olds in Scotland are exposed to tobacco smoke during auto journeys.

The Smoking Prohibition (Children in Motor Vehicles) (Scotland) Bill was debated this afternoon at stage 3 by MSPs. “Many low and middle income countries, where I work in Asia, would not be able to lead in this type of legislation, but will be emboldened to follow Scotland’s example”.

He said: “As far as I can tell, politicians should really now be called risk managers because that seems to be what they spend most of their time doing, especially when it comes to child safety”.

Cancer Research said it w should become second nature to comply with the new law.
