SMU coach Chad Morris believes his team is already better than at any point in his first season with the Mustangs. SMU played six teams ranked in the top 25 in 2015. Thankfully, Orion Stewart did bail Russell out when he threw an interception by grabbing a pick in the end zone.
“I need a little time to regroup from some personal issues through spending time with family so I can come back as the father & man I need to be”, Jefferson said in an Instagram post. “I thought they were excited to be out there”, Grobe said. “I’ll be back on the field in the way y’all deserve to see me out there too!” Quarterback Matt Davis has had excellent stretches over the past year and a half, and recorded over 1,000 rushing yards last season. Baylor went down the field and tied up the game with a field goal to make the score 6-6 heading into the half.
Hicks threw for 144 of his 229 yards in the first quarter, and connected with Courtland Sutton for SMU’s only touchdown, a 20-yarder, in the third quarter.
The Baylor Bears take on the SMU Mustangs today in a college football game on the second big week on the 2016 schedule.
Jefferson, who rushed for 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore, missed the team’s season opener against Northwestern State while recuperating from foot and rib injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.

SMU picked up a 34-21 road win over North Texas in its season opener after racing out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. They had four such drives in their season-opening win over Northwestern State.
