Smyly solid over 7 innings, Rays beat Padres 8-2

Myers went 1 for 4 in his first game at Tropicana Field since being dealt by Tampa Bay to the Padres as part of a three-team, 11-player deal in December 2014.

Franklin was getting set to lead off the game when Kiermaier, who was loosening to bat second, swung the bat over his head and struck Franklin. Appearing in his 33rd game of the 2016 regular season on Wednesday against the Padres, Franklin is now batting.295 with four home runs and 23 RBI to accompany his.368 on-base percentage.

Franklin stayed in the game, walked in his first plate appearance, and scored on a home run later in the inning, but was removed after the inning ended due to the head injury.

“I pretty much single-handedly sucked the soul out of the team”, Jackson said.

It’s not often a baseball team can reset their season record for runs and almost do the same on the mound with strikeouts, but the Rays came up with 15 runs and 15 strikeouts in an easy 15-1 win over the San Diego Padres at Tropicana Field. I felt a little bit dazed.

Already without starting SS Matt Duffy (Achilles) and 2B Logan Forsythe (back), the Rays were froced to scramble. Tampa will be out for just their 49th win of the season and in the process they could give Snell his fourth victory and according to odds makers this is Tampa Bay’s game to lose as they are -145 favourites at the moment but that could change.

Nick Franklin and Corey Dickerson also homered, and the Rays won their third straight. Manager Kevin Cash said “it might have been the most impressive home run we’ve seen at this ballpark this year”. Alexei Ramirez, who had two hits for the Padres, drove in their only run with a bases-loaded walk. Longoria is the Rays’ career leader in a number of categories including homers (232), RBIs (780), doubles (292) and extra-base hits (540).

The Padres have lost seven of nine.

Kiermaier had a three-run drive in a five-run eighth that made it 8-1.
