Snapchat Debuts Video-Enabled Glasses
The company – which is changing its name to Snap, Inc. – will start selling hardware now in addition to the software they created with their wildly popular picture and video messaging app!

The company says Spectacles are “capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge“.
The glasses will record 10 seconds of video at a time, which will be sent to the memories section of a Snapchat account.
“When we were just getting started it made sense to name our company Snapchat Inc., because Snapchat was our only product!”, founder Evan Spiegel wrote on the company’s blog.
Vanishing message service Snapchat Inc on Saturday announced it will launch a line of video-catching sunglasses, a spin on Glass eyewear abandoned by Google more than a year ago.
“When I got the footage back I could see my memory, through my eyes”.
The change also has a more serious business objective – to make it easier for people to distinguish the company from its services.
From there, you can choose to post your Memories to your Story so that others can view them. In the case of Spectacles, the company developed a new camera to allow for more immersive video – certainly an expansion beyond smartphone apps. “It was the closest I’d ever come to feeling like I was there again”. Apropos recharging, in order to save you the trouble of dragging around a special charger for the glasses, they come with a case that also serves as a portable charger. We can’t wait for you to see it!
The device, which was shown off by Snap CEO Evan Spiegel to a group of reporters, has generated a lot of excitement online. The glasses are the first hardware from the Los Angeles-based company. “We’re going to take a slow approach to rolling them out”, Spiegel told The Wall Street Journal. “Now that we are developing other products, like Spectacles, we need a name that goes beyond just one product – but doesn’t lose the familiarity and fun of our team and brand”.

In a very hip yet vague promotional video released Friday, the company demonstrates a user wearing the glasses while skateboarding.
