Snapchat Decides To Kill Lens Store, Zooms In On Digital Advertising

According to the company, apparently they decided that they need to focus on their advertising business instead.

Snapchat announced that it will be shutting down its Lens Store from Friday, January 8th.

Snapchat said it will attempt to keep previously purchased lenses “special” by not offering some of the most popular purchased lenses as free lenses again for an unspecified period of time.

Snapchat will also offer ten free lenses daily, and it should also be noted that if you’ve already purchased lenses in Snapchat, they are still yours to keep after the store closes down.

You’ll still be able to puke rainbows, but Snapchat is getting rid of its paid animated lenses this week. After a 99c charge was introduced for some lenses, they weren’t used as much.

However, sponsored lenses will still be available, like the one offered by Fox to promote The Peanuts Movie – and one report claims Snapchat sells these for up to 0,000 per day. In addition to Sponsored Lenses, advertisements have been placed on Snapchat’s content portal Discover and on Stories, which collects all the snaps that users have taken during a certain event or at a certain place.
