Snapchat takes on Facebook in video views, triples traffic since spring
To put that number in perspective, Facebook announced just this past week that the social network is handling over eight billion video views each day. Investors cheered the news and sent the stock zooming higher. This is the result of various changes made by Snapchat for over the past year. It also added a 3D Touch functionality for the newly launched iPhone 6s. What’s more, with somewhere over 100 million monthly active users, getting to 6 billion daily video views is certainly notable.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is gearing to grab a large chunk of that video pie.
Video content advertising is one of the most profitable bastions of social media, and it’s an area where Snapchat is seeing tremendous growth. During last week’s earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg said 500 million people watched videos daily on its apps and site.
But not all agree with Facebook’s rosy outlook. So could we expect Snapchat to be on par with Facebook by the end of 2015?

The users of Snapchat have increased continually in the last few years and it seems that the growth is paying off now. Not only is Snapchat mobile only, while YouTube and Facebook are consumed on computers as well, but the types of video are different: seconds and minutes for the likes of Vine, Facebook and Snapchat, while YouTube videos can stretch into hours, as anyone who has spent 180 minutes staring into a virtual fireplace will testify. However, Snapchat is making itself an appealing target to advertisers interested in bringing their TV budgets to engaging mobile platforms. This also indicates that now Snapchat may have become a portal for videos also other than private messaging.
