Snapdragon 800, 801 SoCs Said to Lack Support for Android 7.0 Nougat

The Clipboard and Keycode features’ apparent lack of functionality would help explain why the nav bar customizer was either cut entirely or punted to another Nougat release down the line. But they also announced that the Nexus phones will be the most widely available smartphones with Android Nougat. We’ve already seen that Google has ended support for the much-loved Nexus 5, which is based around the Snapdragon 800 chipset.

With exception to LG’s V20, which will be the first device to run Nougat out of the box, HTC appears to be the second OEM to provide any type of word on when customers can expect Nougat. The smaller model will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad core processor backed by 4GB, while the larger variant will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip, also supporting 4GB of RAM.

HTC has posted on its Twitter account that “We’re excited to receive final shipping Android 7.0 Nougat software from Google!” Probably around the same time they were past year. It is likely that manufacturers will be unable to update these newer devices to Android 7.0 Nougat. Now that the latest version of Android has officially been released, however, HTC has offered up some more details on its own rollout, including timing, albeit vague, for each device. It is possible that one or more manufacturers or developers will work on an updated GPU driver for the Snapdragon 800 and 801 chipsets.
