Snowden has been cleared to appear at a theater near you
According to a report in Time magazine, Stone told the audience at a panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con: “It’s not amusing”.

Following a special screening of Oliver Stone’s film “Snowden” on September 14, the real Edward Snowden will be live-streamed from his exile in Moscow in theaters nationwide.
“It means a lot to have Ed’s endorsement, and it means a lot to have you [Snowden] here tonight”, said Gordon-Levitt, who was sporting an American flag on his T-shirt.
Snowden also appears in the film as himself at the very end. When asked about his acting Oliver Stone stated it to be “less than natural”.
Stone said that it took nine takes to get the scene right, adding: “It was a painful day”.
The story is played out by a cast of actors, including Shailene Woodley as Lindsay Mills, Snowden’s long-term girlfriend, and Nicholas Cage as a former USA intelligence official, but the real Snowden also makes an appearance at the end of the film, playing himself.
“It was very foreign to me to play someone who is real, because not only am I trying to feel truthful and grounded in the dialogue that Oliver [Stone] and Kieran Fitzgerald, the writers of the film, created, but I’m also trying to pay homage to a living, breathing woman, without knowing that woman”, Woodley admitted.
Out of necessity, the film takes some liberties with facts that aren’t in the public record yet, including the pivotal moment when Snowden smuggles the classified files out of the NSA.
“The question is we’re promised privacy in the constitution and if the government is going to change those rules, they need to be open about that”, Gordon-Levitt said at the convention. Although Stone and the cast have their own views on Snowden, the filmmaker stressed that the movie is not one-sided. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
Snowden will be released in the U.S. in September, with a United Kingdom release date yet to be confirmed.
