Snowden has been cleared to appear at a theatre near you

Director Oliver Stone tells the story of NSA employee Edward Snowden, played by Joseph Gordon Levitt, who infamously leaked thousands of classified documents to the press. (Wait, what?) Snowden stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt – apparently now your go-to guy for biopics about people they’ve already made perfectly good documentaries about – as the NSA whistleblower, under the direction of Oliver Stone.

Gordon-Levitt added that it’s a story that does not lend itself to a headline. “The question is we’re promised privacy in the constitution and if the government is going to change those rules, they need to be open about that”, the actor said.

Leave it to Oliver Stone to stir up controversy about mass hysteria and the surveillance state we now live in while promoting his latest film from Hall H at Comic-Con.

Whatever Stone’s misgivings are about the popular game app, the Snowden movie would surely provide moviegoers an inside look at a world where technology and privacy become at odds.

“It was Ed’s idea, his suggestion”, Stone said.

Stone went on to say that apps like Pokémon Go could help usher in a “robot society”, which is a little more far-fetched.

“I don’t think anyone in politics is really charismatic enough to connect with people on these issues that are so abstract”, Snowden said. He then asserted that the game is simply the latest form of “surveillance capitalism”.

“Snowden”, the movie, which will feature the title character played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, was supposed to be released on December 25 a year ago.

“I think the media was very unfair to Lindsay at the time and treated her in a very condescending way”, he said. Often the protagonist of the movie will turn on you. I’ve seen him over a period of nearly two years now, and he’s never wilted in the face of the opposition. “I’ve seen him over a period of two years and he’s never wilted in the face of the opposition”.

While it may be a dramatic movie, the fact that Snowden is based on actual events means there will be plenty to learn when the movie hits theaters on September 16, 2016.
