“I jumped up and down. more about that than about my own”, Paulson said. My publicist told me, you’ve just been nominated, so I just found out. Though Modern Family’s numbers have slightly declined since past year, the broadly appealing sitcom stubbornly remains a player in the Best Comedy Series category.
The TV shows “Mr. Robot“, “House of Cards“, “Homeland“, “Game of Thrones”, “Downton Abbey“, “Better Call Saul“, and “The Americans” are nominated for the best drama series award, while “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, “Transparent”, “Veep”, “Silicon Valley”, “Modern Family”, “Master of None”, and “Black-ish” are nominated for best comedy series.
Game of Thrones will compete in a seven-way race for best drama with Showtime’s Central Intelligence Agency thriller Homeland, FX’s Cold War espionage saga The Americans, AMC’s quirky legal story Better Call Saul, the final season of PBS’s period melodrama Downton Abbey, Netflix’s political mystery House of Cards, and USA Network’s new computer-hacking tale Mr. Robot. Thrilled for the show receiving so many nominations. The nominations for Mr. Robot and its star prove that buzz and quality can equal Emmy notice, even for a first-year show on USA.
The HBO fantasy filmed in Northern Ireland received 23 nominations – edging out The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, which earned 22 nods – and goes head-to-head with Downton Abbey for outstanding drama series. In a feat unprecedented in Emmy history, Metcalf landed three separate nominations for three separate roles in the same year: that moving Horace and Pete spot; a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory; and a Lead Actress in a Comedy nod for her role in HBO’s comedy Getting On.
The acknowledgements for “Game of Thrones” included best supporting actor and actress nominations for last year’s victor Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headley, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams and nods for writers David Benioff and DB Weiss.
Among some of the nominations GoT is listed on are awards for casting, writing, cinematography, sound mixing, special visual effects, stunt coordination, costumes, makeup and production design to name a few.
Aziz Ansari’s beautifully observed Master Of None was always expected to take one of the two Outstanding Comedy Series positions vacated by Parks and Recreation and Louie.
The first series of American Crime Story is widely regarded as one of the finest TV shows of 2016 so far, but the man at the centre of it, Cuba Gooding Jr, was also seen as its weakest link.
The Emmy nominations are out, and, as always, debate and discussion ensue. The Funny or Die website was nominated twice in the short form category, matching two nominations previous year, while YouTube won three nominations, including one for “Her Story”.

The hit series of HBO naming “Veep” has received the most numbers of comedy nominations but the ABC show, Black-ish, also received nominations in the top 3 categories.
