Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of the infection include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and fever.
The FDA said no illness had been reported ahead of the recall, which was the result of testing by a FDA-contracted laboratory which revealed that a 4 oz. package of Diamond of California® Chopped Macadamia Nuts contained Salmonella.
The UPC code for the product is 010300345848.
The lot numbers of the recalled chopped macadamia nuts are 16137D331S, 16138D331S and 16158D331S. They have “Best Before Dates” of November 16 and 17, as well as December 6 and 7.
Anyone that has purchased the nuts are urged not to eat them. They can contact Snyder’s-Lance consumer affairs for a full refund hereor by calling 1-503-364-0399.
