Soccer star Rapinoe kneels during national anthem

And Megan has definitely kept this already raging conversation going. “I’m anti-men and women of the military”, Kaepernick said after the 49ers’ victory against the Chargers.

The Niners quarterback was also supported last week by teammate Eric Reid, 24, and 26-year-old Seattle Seahawks cornerback, Jeremy Lane, who also stayed down during the anthem in his game.

She did so during the national anthem before her team, Seattle Reign, played the Chicago Red Stars in an NWSL game.

“It was very intentional”, Rapinoe told American Soccer Now.

Part of why she kneeled down was the way Kaepernick’s message has been skewed by the negative criticism that it’s attracted.

Rapinoe said that while her gesture was “something small”, she planned to continue doing it to “spark some meaningful conversation”.

Tim Howard, U.S. national team goalkeeper and 2014 World Cup hero, said Monday that he supports Colin Kaepernick’s decision not to stand during the national anthem.

Kaepernick has come under fire in recent days for his refusal to stand for the “Star-Spangled Banner” during a preseason game on August 26.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick two weeks ago began sitting down as a form of protest against racial oppression during the playing of the national anthem.

NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick spurred a national discussion in recent days with his decision to forgo standing during the USA national anthem as a protest against racial injustice in the country.

“I am disgusted with way he has been treated and the fans and hatred he has received in all of this”, Rapione wrote to espnW’s Julie Foudy, who posted the comments in a series of tweets.

Rapinoe is a high-profile figure in female sports, and sports in general in the USA, having helped the national team win gold at the 2012 Olympics and the 2015 World Cup.

The 49er is far from the first athlete to take a sports game as an opportunity for quiet protest.

Veteran U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard says he supports the gestures, though he has no plans to do something similar. Meanwhile activists and others, including President Barack Obama, have expressed support in him exercising his rights.

“I feel everyone is really craving [for] people to come out”.

‘I’m not anti-American. I love America. “That doesn’t mean I don’t agree with what [Kaepernick] is doing”.
