Sen. Bernie Sanders may not be the Democratic nominee for president, but he and his supporters have claimed victory because of what they’ve had added to the party’s platform.
He brought the convention to its feet when he called off the roll-call vote Tuesday, in a symbolic show of unity that officially made Clinton the first female nominee of a major USA political party.
In nominating Clinton, delegate after delegate made the point that the selection of a woman was a milestone in America’s 240-year-old history.
The US political system is so tipped in favour of rich, white men that even Clinton, who tried to parlay the female vote in an all-male field in 2008, quipped it is the “highest and hardest” glass ceiling.
She acknowledged that losing to Republican nominee Donald Trump “is not an option”.
“How does this square with the things that you heard at the Republican convention?” Public polls consistently show that a majority of Americans don’t believe she is honest and trustworthy.
He alluded to Mrs Clinton’s election rival, although not by name, by pointing to some of Trump’s more controversial policy positions, including his call to ban Muslims from entering the United States.
Julie Perry, a Sanders delegate from the Kansas City suburb of Mission, said she’ll continue to work for issues important to her as a registered nurse and a labor representative for National Nurses United, the largest union for registered nurses.
Bill Clinton wisely began his speech by telling the oft-told tale of how he met Hillary Rodham after staring at her in the Yale Law School library, leaving him “speechless”. “Nobody would ever vote for me”.
He closed the second night of the Democratic convention, a jubilant celebration of Hillary Clinton’s formal nomination for president.
However, minutes after the roll call, about 100 delegates supporting Sanders marched into the media center of the Democratic national convention, staging a protest against Clinton’s nomination, waving posters and chanting “walk out” loudly.
Kathryn Conant, a West Virginia delegate in a tie-dye shirt who said she had been a Democrat for 45 years, said she saw “the party shifting farther right”.
First lady Michelle Obama was a star of opening night, making an impassioned case for Clinton as the only candidate in the presidential race worthy of being a role model for the nation’s children. Controversy over her use of a private email server for official business while she served as America’s top diplomat dogged her during the primary election season.
“Let’s [elect] someone with Truman’s fighting spirit – Hillary Clinton”, Albright said. The Judge told me, looks to me like we elected the wrong Clinton. But he carries some liabilities.
The noisy debate boiled down to a key decision facing Sanders supporters.
Richardson said she felt that for most of the American public that is a story that they don’t know. Bill Clinton wrote the first draft of his Tuesday speech himself before sharing it with the campaign.
Since losing their children, the women have campaigned for transparency and accountability when officers kill in the line of duty and better gun control measures to reduce street violence.

Lucia McBath, Jordan Davis’ mother, said that Clinton isn’t “afraid to say that black lives matter”. “She’s married to a man who hurt many women”, Trump said at a rally in Spokane, Washington.
