“Thanks for noticing”, read a brief note that appeared on users’ Twitter pages when the website had problems loading.
The company says on its Twitter Support account that it is aware of the issue and is working toward a solution. The website is showing a message “Something is technically wrong”.
Its dashboard application Tweetdeck was also down.
The fault would probably seem like an “unwelcome headache” for Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey, according to the consultants Frost & Sullivan’s.
By 10am some users were starting to see the service come back online.
The service disruption has lasted at least two hours. The first outage took place on Friday, and there was another glitch on Monday evening United Kingdom time.
Twitter has not given any insight on the previous incidents so it is hard to tell whether they are related. The app was also unavailable on mobile phones also.
Users experienced problems reading and sending tweets from around 8am on Tuesday.
There have so far been over 2,200 reports of problems, while the entire IBTimes UK office is unable to use Twitter.
The outage, which started at 8:20am GMT, affected both the mobile and web versions of Twitter.
