Sofia Vergara lends support to humiliated Miss Universe runner-up Ariadna Gutierrez
As televised on Fox, the contest was down to Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo of Colombia and Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines when Harvey, a first-time Miss Universe host, proclaimed Gutierrez the victor after a long dramatic pause.

Santos had publicly celebrated a year ago when the previous Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega Dieppa, won the Miss Universe 2014 title. On the right side, in larger type but lower, it stated that Miss Universe was Miss Philippines.
Wurtzbach told ET that she saw Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, crying backstage as a group of girls comforted her, but that she has not spoken to Gutierrez about the mishap yet.
Did you see the Miss Universe pageant and the mix-up?
Ethan Miller/Getty Images Crowning moment: Miss Philippines 2015, Pia Wurtzbach, gets her crown after it had been taken off the head of apparent victor Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez.
Miss Colombia on the other hand managed to stay surprisingly positive despite the traumatizing experience. “Miss Philippines is fabulous, and said it beautifully in her communication to ESPN after the show about how sorry she was and how she felt. For me Miss France is the real victor”, she said in an interview uploaded to Facebook page Missosology.
“I would have been very shocked, somewhat embarrassed at the same time”.
However, organizers later had to step in and advise Harvey that Miss Columbia was actually the first runner-up. “It was my mistake”, he said on the show.

Steve Harvey holds up the cue card which may have tricked him into incorrectly announcing the wrong Miss Universe victor. “You know… I mean the frightful thing would be to leave it like it was”. “It’d be very cool”, Trump said. Harvey, who is no stranger to gaffes and blunders on Family Feud continued his apologies on Twitter, writing to the audience at home, “I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well”.
