“It’s a major championship, and we want it to be ran and perform as a major championship”.

Thunderstorms have forced the suspension of play during the third round of the US PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club before world No. 1 and defending champion Jason Day was able to start.

They never struck a shot. However, the weather forecast for Sunday includes a chance for rain most of the day.

They could use plenty of rest, and a break in the weather.

The final round is set to begin at 8:40 a.m., in the same pairings as the third round.

The last group of the fourth is scheduled to begin at 3:25 p.m. – if there are no more delays.

Sunday’s round could be played in fits and starts, and while that’s problematic, that’s the hand that PGA Championship officials and competitors will likely have to play.

The last time the PGA was held at Baltusrol, it had a rain delayed Monday finish with Phil Mickelson winning the title.

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (AP) – The PGA Championship resumed Sunday with minimal odds that someone will be holding the Wanamaker Trophy by the end of the day.

He made birdies six and nine to make his push into the lead, the first a mammoth putt from 22 metres.

“The forecast was for them to move through, and there was some clear skies behind them”, Haigh said. Despite three birdies in his first five holes, Watson scrambled through an equally disastrous stretch of three bogeys in four holes on the back.

Kevin Kisner is the current leader in the clubhouse, standing at 5-under and four shots behind the co-leaders after shooting a 5-under 65.

“But our primary aim is to try and finish tomorrow evening”, Haigh said.

“I hit a couple of the right shots at the right time when I had opportunities and my average shots didn’t get me in any trouble. In an attempt to dry them out a little bit, some spots got brown, but they are rolling flawless”. It should yield a few more birdies, but also stay patient with regards to the weather, just keep yourself mentally intact.

He said with the greens being so receptive and with a lack of wind “there’s a 61 or a 62 out there for the taking”. A bogey on the par-3 16th jeopardized his standing, but he made sure he would make the weekend with a birdie on the finishing hole. His 17-under 267 at the British Open was eclipsed only by Henrik Stenson’s major-championship, record-setting, 20-under 264. In between those two, there have been 26 other golfers to shoot 63, including Mickelson earlier this year in the British Open in Scotland.

McIlroy claimed that his approach play was as good as anyone else’s over the two rounds, but described his putting performance as “really disheartening”.
