Arsenal’s injury woes don’t appear to be getting any better after Arsene Wenger revealed Danny Welbeck will not be back in action until February.

“When he arrived, the players were buzzing and the fans were buzzing and I think that gave us all a massive lift”.

The old adage from pessimistic supporters is that their team never wins when they are on the television – but just how would the Barclays Premier League table look if only games screened live counted?

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has brushed away the latest speculation linking Pep Guardiola with his job.

“If you look at all the numbers (Arsenal and City are very close)”.

“I met him before I signed him and we had a long discussion about the game and the job and his position, and I was deeply impressed by his knowledge, by his professionalism, by his detailed knowledge”.

“The only concern that I can have in my profession is to try to win the next game and to win the Premier League”. We have a chance, an opportunity to put things right, and we’ll focus on that. However, lately they’ve found this tie to be more hard, and have only won one of the last six meetings between the sides according to Opta.

“What you look at is of course to nullify the individual quality they have offensively, that will be vital for us to find a good balance between defending well as a team and expressing our way to go forward”. The former Barcelona man had flown to Chile to receive treatment, but is now back and is training with the first team. “I think he has become an absolutely unbelievable player”.

The manager will assess the Chilean’s situation until the last minute before the game against City, with the player still recovering from a hamstring strain, which forced him off against Norwich City.

Asked if he would miss Mourinho, Pellegrini added: “I don’t know if the word is miss him”.

Newcastle sit in sixth, trailing five teams – Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool, who have each had 10 or more games screened live, but none of that quintet have been on TV as often as Chelsea this term.
