Solar Eclipse forecast: Will we see it in Northeast Ohio?

On Aug. 21, in the middle of the day it will get almost completely dark in Cleveland thanks to the first solar eclipse since 1918. The next will be in 2024.

When you put them on, it should look completely dark, but when you look at the sun, it will look like the moon.

The trade group that represents hotel owners, the American Hotel and Lodging Association, encourages consumers to book directly with hotels to get the best deal.

Since Wednesday, August 9, staff at the Museum of Space History have handed out 1,000 solar eclipse glasses to area residents and schools.

A partial eclipse is bit like making pasta. Damage to the eyes can come as a result of viewing the eclipse before totality. But if you are shooting the sun for more than a few seconds, NASA suggests placing a darkening filter or eclipse glasses over your phone’s camera to prevent any possible sun “burn in”, that could leave a white dot on future photos. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs, and free eclipse viewing glasses will be provided while supplies last. Activities will take place throughout the day.

Ivy Tech purchased from a NASA-approved company, and the safety glasses had the correct ISO and Shade Level requirements. Waiver forms were sent home with students and can also be downloaded from the BCS website. Drivers should not stop on the road to view the eclipse.

Kretzer noted that they were working with a team from SIUE that was providing training for the teachers so that they, in turn, can prepare their students for the day of the eclipse. “We have more than 73,000 students, some of them very young, and we have a duty to ensure all of their safety while they are in our care”.
