Soldiers killed in army base attack in Indian-administered Kashmir

In light of Sunday’s terror attack at a military base in Uri in Kashmir, the Indian Army is going to turn up heat on Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) with concentrated artillery barrages, sniping and other operations, a tactical move to impose some costs on the Pakistan Army for aiding and abetting terrorism.

Meanwhile, as the government and Indians micro-blogging website users began targeting Pakistan for Uri attacks, some Pakistanis countered back with their views and theories.

Indian Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh referred to Pakistan as a “terrorist state” following the attack.

Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh told reporters in New Delhi that Sunday’s attack bore the hallmarks of Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed.

They then waged a six-hour gun battle with security forces before being killed, the Indian army said.

Pakistan’s army said in a statement that the allegations were “unfounded and premature”, reiterating Islamabad’s stance that no infiltration is allowed from Pakistani soil.

The senior Army officer, in charge of the force’s operations, asserted that the Indian Army remains prepared to thwart any nefarious designs and any evil designs of the adversary shall be given a befitting reply.

India has blamed a Pakistan-based militant group for that attack but, after initial progress, an attempt to conduct a joint investigation has lost momentum.

Soldiers are now searching the base, 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of the region’s main city of Srinagar, for any more militants, the statement said.

Singh further added, “There are definite and conclusive indications that the perpetrators of [the] Uri attack were highly trained, heavily armed, and specially equipped”. If terrorism is the instrument of the weak and coward, restraint in the face of repeated terror attacks betrays inefficiency and incompetence. Police described the 21-year-old’s killing as a major success in their campaign against separatist militants, but angry mobs protested against his death and attacked police stations, police posts and government buildings.

It is believed that the attack was the handiwork of a freshly infiltrated group of militants who could have entered along the Salamabad Nallah into the town. Ten security personnel were killed in the attack that took place on 5th of December, 2014.

He said Prime Minister Sharif will highlight the Kashmir issue and human rights violations by Indian forces in the held territory during his address at UNGA. He said he had spoken to his Pakistani counterpart and conveyed India’s “serious concerns”.

He said that the terrorists had fired incendiary ammunition along with automatic fire of small arms that led to army tents and temporary shelters catching fire.

All four terrorists have been killed in what has emerged as worse than the attack on the Pathankot air base earlier in January this year, in which seven army men were killed.
