At least eight people have been killed by Indian troops as they tried to cross its disputed border with Pakistan in Kashmir, according to the army. “A soldier was killed in the ongoing encounter”, he said.

Before Tuesday’s violence, India said it had this year killed 31 suspected militants trying to breach the Kashmir border and foiled 17 infiltration attempts.
Security forces said 10 men were killed in an area close to an army base that was attacked on Sunday.
After the Uri attack, the terrorists had again made an audacious attempt to cross the Line of Control in Uri and Nowgam sectors with Pakistani troops violating ceasefire and firing at Indian positions to give cover to the terrorists.
Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has warned India that Islamabad will strike at “a time and place of its choosing” if New Delhi resorted to any military retaliation to the Uri attack. “India alone imposing economic sanctions will hardly make any difference”, the New Indian Express said.
The foundation said the attack was allegedly carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammad, a Pakistan-based terrorist group and a USA designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation, believed to receive military and logistical support from the Pakistani army. As per the latest reports, air traffic operations have resumed at the airport.
Besides National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other senior Home Ministry officials, the meeting was also attended by Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar.
In recent years, India has refrained from aggressive responses to terrorism, which included the 2008 Mumbai attacks carried out by Pakistani militants that left 166 dead. Four terrorists were killed in each of the operations. “He would talks about the Indian atrocities in Kashmir but also would be conciliatory to end tension”, said an official. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh branded Islamabad as a terrorist state and said the Asian neighbour should be isolated and sanctioned at worldwide platforms.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said that Pakistan is becoming a problem state for the entire world and, therefore, sanctions should be imposed on it.

The presence of the foreign secretary in the meeting is significant as government plans to launch a diplomatic offensive against Pakistan.
