Soler: Barcelona had an agreement to sign Pogba

Paul Pogba, you may have heard, became the most expensive player of all time when he joined Manchester United for around £89m earlier this summer.

A Barcelona official has claimed that the club had an agreement in place to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba last summer, only to decide against the signing.

It has now come to light that Barca did not feel compelled to complete a deal for the France global last year and were put off by the asking price this year. “We made a commitment to the future and if it does not work out, as they are young players, then it will be easier to sell them for a profit”.

“Last year we reached an agreement with Juventus: if they wanted to sell Pogba we would have a priority”, he said.

‘We want to go back to the Champions League because that’s where we belong, ‘ he added.

“If it continues like this, with one club able to spend €120m on one player, it’s going to cost more and more all the time to get the best players”.

After deciding not to tie up a deal for Pogba, the Spanish giants signed six players over the transfer window and have started La Liga in typical fashion, winning their first two matches.

The presence of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez appeared prohibitive for a number of reported Barca targets but technical secretary Robert Fernandez is delighted to have Alcacer on board and believes the 23-year-old Spain global is relishing the challenge.
