Solid, not spectacular, preliminary ratings for Trump on SNL
In the cold open, David came on as Sanders following Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton, which continues to get better as she answered idiotic questions from Cecily Strong’s Rachel Maddow and tried to seem cool, comfortable and casual.

Trump spoofed himself in a sketch that offered a glimpse of the results of a Trump presidency. In another bit, he poked fun at the “SNL” cast in live tweets. But the night did bless us with this GIF of Trump aping Drake’s dancing in Hotline Bling as an uncoordinated taxman. It was so bad, it looked like “SNL” was trying to sabotage Trump.
Before Trump even made an appearance, Larry David once again killed as Bernie Sanders in the opening skit delivering the famous throwaway line that opens every show – well, sort of.
The group, DeportRacism.com, announced following David’s outburst that it would give the money to David.
Mr Trump became the seventh presidential hopeful to host the NBC show, five months after the network dropped him after he made “derogatory statements” about immigrants. “Jimmy, how’s the economy?” President Trump asks an aide.
“They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing their problems”, he said.
“As a businessman I can respect that”, Trump conceded.
As the real estate mogul finished up his monologue with Trump impersonators Taran Killam and Darrell Hammond, a voice bellowed from the sidelines, “You’re a racist!” “Nor can we undermine the fact that Donald Trump’s words are incredibly powerful, and that they do in fact have an impact on, you know, perceptions here in the United States around immigration, and around racism”, says Michelle Rosas, a protester. To big applause from the crowd, he railed against extravagant introductions (“I’m not Elvis!”) and infrastructure so weak that he claimed to resist using any public bridges.
In his first sketch, Trump traveled to 2018 – two years after he had won the White House.
The whole thing just makes me sad.
But if you’re Trump or SNL, it’s an absolute no brainer to do this show from an attention and ratings perspective.

On Saturday, activists marched from Trump Tower to Rockefeller Center ahead of the show to protest his appearance. The protest broke up before airtime.
