“It’s still a dynamic situation and it could change”, said Cmdr. Big truck drivers should evade the area that is being controlled by more than 600 firefighters and two water-dropping helicopters, LA Times reported.
“The fire is being pushed by a strong northwest wind and now poses a threat to oil, gas, power and rail infrastructure”, Ventura County officials wrote on vcemergency.com.
The flames came within striking distance of area beaches, in addition to “bumping against the roadway”, Ventura County Fire Capt. Steve Kaufmann said in a video posted to his department’s Facebook page.
About 50 homes were ordered evacuated in Solimar Beach community and another 30 nearby were under voluntary evacuation. Authorities confirmed that the blaze was started by a downed power line.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries fighting the fire, one with a knee injury and another an ankle injury, VanSciver said, he added.
The fire began late Friday northwest of the city of Ventura and immediately reached Pacific Coast Highway, also known as the 101.
Hundreds of firefighters are battling a large wildfire in Southern California, forcing the evacuation of residents and the closure of a major highway.
Part of Highway 101 was shut down because of the wind-fueled wildfire. No structures have so far been reported damaged.
“We are hitting it with everything we’ve got”, says chief Norm Plott.
All mandatory evacuations were lifted at 5 p.m. Saturday. The fire started around 10:30 p.m. Friday, burning about 100 acres in the 3000 block of West Pacific Coast Highway.
A wind advisory will remain in effect for parts of Ventura and Los Angeles counties through noon Sunday, said Stuart Ceto, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service.

The fire, which was 10 percent contained, likely wouldn’t be under control until at least Tuesday, Burris said.
