Pi Day was organized by Larry Shaw in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium when he and other physicists marched in a circle and then ate fruit pies.
Pizza Hut is holding a contest where the grand prize is a whole lot of pie – $1600 worth, to be exact.
All you have to do is solve one of three math questions created by famed mathematician John H. Conway, a professor at Princeton University. The first person to correctly answer the questions will win 3.14 years of free pizza.
Today is “Pi Day”, the day to celebrate the mathematical constant, and area businesses are celebrating with special deals.
The national pizza chain will post three math problems – ranging in difficulty from high school math to PhD level – on its blog at 8 a.m. today.
And Kitchenworks is offering 15 percent off pie-related kitchenware with the code PIDAY314. Contestants will have until midnight that evening to complete the test and provide possible answers in the blog’s comment section.
