The odds of winning the jackpot are 1: 292,201,338.
If there’s a victor, they have the option to take a payout over 30 years, or take the lump sum, which is now estimated at $558 million.
“Powerball is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico”.
For days thousands across the stated flocked to the stores for just a chance to win a record-setting $900 million Powerball jackpot.
Lustig has a specific way to finding the numbers you feel most comfortable with in his book, but ultimately, once you pick the group that you think will work, stick with it. “Remember, a set of numbers wins the grand prize, not individual numbers”, Lustig says.
Hundreds of people in ME bought Powerball tickets leading up to Saturday’s drawing for the highest jackpot ever – $900 million – after Wednesday’s drawing yielded no victor. “For someone who’s been in the business for 16 years, I’ve dreamed of something this big but never seen it until now”.
The massive jackpot, which has been growing since it was a mere $40 million on November 4, is a result of lottery officials almost doubling the unlikelihood of winning the Powerball last fall, making it more likely that enormous jackpots like this can build up. If no one claims the lucky number combination for tonight’s drawing, the pot will jump to well over $1 billion for next Wednesday’s drawing, according to ABC.
“I’m going insane! I can’t take it anymore!” she said, burying her face in her hands but giggling uncontrollably as she turned to a lineup of customers.
The previous record Powerball of $590.5 million was won by a single player in Florida in 2013.
Lottery officials said bigger jackpots draw more interest, more players and more money for schools.
Saturday night will be the 19th Powerball drawing since the last time someone won the jackpot.
While many were new to the game, others are regulars. Even so, if there is no victor on Saturday, the jackpot will rollover to roughly $1.3 billion.
