Some Missouri GOP delegates praise Trump’s pick of Pence

Trump on Friday announced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice presidential choice.

On this week’s episode of “Powerhouse Politics”, ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl and Political Director Rick Klein spoke with one “Never Trump” delegate, who is bound to vote for Donald Trump but hopes to vote for another candidate, and the chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party, who plans to vote for Trump.

Not everyone is on board. The delegate rebellion against Donald Trump is dead. Buescher says Pence has been a reliable voice on social issues, such as abortion, and adding him to the ticket could reduce criticism that Trump doesn’t have enough experience.

Tom Rath, a New Hampshire delegate and longtime adviser to GOP campaigns, called Pence a “solid pick” who “should be reassuring to a lot of people in the party”.

Still, when Rath was asked if he’s now supporting Trump, he said simply, “I’m a John Kasich delegate”.

Wisconsin delegate Roger Stauter was succinct: “Mike Pence is a good choice”. “But I think even the world’s worst day with Donald Trump as president of the United States is better than our best day with Hillary Clinton”.

Although she still seems a sliver skeptical of Trump, the 50-year-old consultant said she was encouraged by the super conservative platform approved by convention officials last week.

“Just got back from the Philippines and I wake up this morning to find out that I’m speaking at the Republican National Convention”, Tebow said in a video posted to Facebook Thursday.

“The rules committee is not granting us any rights”, she said.

Unruh said she will not pursue a minority report.

Bryant said Pence has been “one of the nation’s leading Republican governors”.

“He burns cool and Trump burns hot”, said California delegate Shawn Steel, who is serving as sergeant-of-arms at the convention. “It’s the ideal contrast”.

NAACP President Cornell William Brooks told CNN earlier this week that Trump should have made the time for the civil rights leaders, especially so soon after videotaped killings of black men by police in Louisiana and Minnesota, followed by the killings of five Dallas police officers by a black sniper.

Florida delegate Brian Ballard said the pick would ease fears some conservatives have about Trump.
