Someone spotted the Bugatti Veyron successor on an open road

Yesterday, photographer Erico Hessel was tooling north along the E45 autostrada between Imola and Bologna when he spotted a trio of matte black prototypes, bookended by a pair of passenger vans.

The new “hypercar” from the VW Group is reportedly using the same 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbo engine as its predecessor, but the total output is being raised to approximately 1,500 HP. The Chiron looks similar to the outgoing Veyron, with a more aggressive face that we saw previewed on the recent Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo concept. On the other hand, Greek mythology tells us Chiron is the most powerful centaur, a hybrid creature that’s half man and half horse. As you can see, the Chiron mule shares the same scalloped entryway as the Vision GT Concept, as well as a very similar rear fascia. All in all, the Chiron with its more subtle aspects is much preferable to the Vision Gran Turismo.

A new picture as well as a short video of the Bugatti Chiron in the midst of testing have surfaced.

Bugatti has yet to announce the official name for the Bugatti Veyron replacement, but it is believed that Bugatti Chiron might be its name.

This spy shot appears to be firm evidence that the next Bugatti won’t fall into that camp.

So far Bugatti has played things pretty close to the vest when it comes to specifications for their next-generation hypercar.

The only question is, just how fast will the Veyron’s successor go?

“Our showroom concept allows people to experience our brand values Art, Forme, Technique and projects the flair of Molsheim into the world”, said Bugatti sales and marketing chief Stefan Brungs.
