Something insane is happening on Call of Duty’s Twitter

The team behind game Call of Duty have drawn criticism after apparently live tweeting a fake terrorist attack on Singapore.

Video game fans were quick to respond to the tweets, calling them tone-deaf and insensitive. Today, the official Call of Duty Twitter account has been transformed into the “Current Events Aggregate“, reporting on an explosion at Coalescence Coporation research laboratories in Singapore. Global video game news sites like Polygon and IGN called the tweets “tacky” and “irresponsible”, while the hundreds of tweets in response to the stunt said it was in poor taste.

A new trailer has been released for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” with just little over a month remaining before the game is officially scheduled to be released.

Over the next five hours, about 20 tweets were sent to the account’s 2.9 million followers, including updates that martial law had been declared in Singapore and a quarantine zone had been set up.

The main focus of the promo is to give players a sneak preview of the “dark and gritty future’ that the game is set in”.

After a dozen or so tweets, the studio did conclude the stunt by saying, “This was a glimpse into the future fiction of #BlackOps3”.

Thousands of Twitter users took to the social media sight to discuss their views on the marketing ploy.

According to Techno Buffalo, as Call of Duty: Black Ops III receives its story trailer, a new face is also welcomed in the franchise, and a few may be familiar with this particular personality.

Communications experts here think that while such a marketing campaign could be construed as tasteless, it is undeniably effective. Orson Welles would’ve been proud of you’. With the full promotion of the title from the inside-out, the title has all the makings of a great first person shooter-but the awesomeness does not end there as Hollywood enters the war with talents being shared in the game.
