Son of drug lord ‘El Chapo’ Guzman kidnapped diners Mexico
(Vatican Radio) Mexican authorities confirm that one of six men abducted at gunpoint from a restaurant in the worldwide vacation resort of Puerto Vallarta is a son of the jailed leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel.

“Jalisco state’s attorney general confirmed that 29-year-old Jesus Alfredo Guzman, a son of Chapo Guzman, was one of six men abducted by armed assailants in Puerto Vallarta”, Carrie says.
Jesus Alfredo Guzman was among a group of men kidnapped from the restaurant on Monday, authorities say. His abduction “has been confirmed by what was found in the vehicles and what security agencies found and the forensic examinations performed”.
“The lead prosecutor also said the kidnappers are members of the New Jalisco Generation cartel, the dominant organized crime gang in the state”.
There are reports that another of Guzman’s sons, Ivan, may have also been among the victims. He did not say whether Ivan could be one of the two still not identified.
It would be the latest sign the Sinaloa cartel’s dominance is not what it once was.
” ‘The subjects enter, control the diners, separate the women to a side and violently take them (the men),’ he said in an interview with The Associated Press prior to the news conference”.
Jalisco state Governor Aristoteles Sandoval said Monday that security had been tightened in the area and that local authorities were working to capture those responsible.
It has become one of violence-plagued Mexico’s most powerful drug gangs in recent months by defying the authorities with a series of brazen attacks and ambushes.
He is now in a maximum security federal prison in the northern city of Ciudad Juarez and fighting extradition to the United States. Jesus Alfredo is suspected to be a senior member. In 2009, he was indicted on USA drug trafficking charges in Chicago along with his father and other Sinaloa cartel leaders.
In 2012, the U.S. Treasury Department designated him under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act as assisting his father in drug trafficking. “That is what has allowed us to confirm this now”, said Almaguer.
