Son of Mexican drug boss ‘El Chapo’ abducted

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) – The former judicial director of Mexico’s federal Altiplano prison, Leonor Garcia, has been exonerated of responsibility for the escape of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in July 2015.

A son of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was among suspected criminals abducted in a Pacific coast city on Monday, officials say. The gunmen left the women alone and simply took the men.

Analysts say the abductions are the clearest evidence yet that a power struggle is under way for control of the vast cartel, considered one of the largest criminal enterprises in the Western Hemisphere.

El Chapo is now in a maximum security federal prison in the northern Mexico city of Ciudad Juarez after staging an audacious escape through a mile-long tunnel in July 2015.

On Wednesday, Mexican journalist Denise Maerker published a photograph of Alfredo Guzman with Mexican soap opera actress Kate Del Castillo.

No one has contacted Mexican authorities to report the men missing, and authorities have not heard from the kidnappers, Almaguer said.

“At this moment, we have identified four of the kidnapped”, Almaguer said, “one of them being Jesus Alfredo Guzman”.

“The person by the name of Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, age 29, is the son of Joaquin Guzman Loera”, Almaguer said at a news conference.

Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, 29, was celebrating in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico on Monday.

The criminologist said it is likely that the abduction will generate acts of revenge from members of the Sinaloa cartel against the responsible organization. He said authorities were looking for those women for more information.

His father is now in a maximum security federal prison in the northern city of Ciudad Juarez, after staging a spectacular jailbreak previous year only to be recaptured in January. In June, local media said an armed gang broke into the home of Guzman’s mother and stole vehicles and other goods.
