“Mr. Peres has survived the night”, Kreiss said, adding that Peres is now sedated and was put on a respirator.

Higher minimum wages in many states and tougher competition among businesses to fill jobs pushed up pay, while low inflation made those paychecks stretch further. “I can’t really say full recovery, but we are keeping optimistic and hoping for the best”. “He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for a deal with the Palestinians”.

The elder statesman is one of Israels most admired symbols and the last of its founding fathers. CBS reported that “there is some deep concern in Israel for former president Shimon Peres”.

Over a seven-decade career, he’s held virtually every senior political office, including three stints as prime minister and extended terms as foreign, defense and finance minister.

He had remained active since completing his seven-year term as president in 2014, refusing to bow into retirement.

Earlier this year, Peres was twice hospitalized for heart problems but quickly released.

Chief Rabbi David Lau called on the public to pray for Peres.

In the video, in which Peres encourages the public to buy locally made products, he appears somewhat tired but is otherwise alert and coherent. His office said Peres received a pacemaker last week. Earlier this month, he participated in the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio, Italy.

Nickolay Mladenov, UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, said he was praying for Peres, calling him ‘a patriarch of peace and progress’.

“Shimon, we love you and the entire nation is wishing for your recovery”, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted.
