Hillvue Heights Baptist Church in Bowling Green was normally a place of sanctuary and peace for people across Southern Kentucky, but in a split second on Sunday morning fear found its way inside the church walls.

According to WBKO, the congregation told police that Ethan Buckley, 21, and his father filled out first time visitors’ card and told them they were visiting from Arkansas.

The victim was taken to the Medical Center at Bowling Green for treatment.

Buckley was taken to the Warren County Regional Jail after he was interviewed by police, and he was booked on charges of assault and domestic violence.

There are also reports that one of the pastors tackled the armed attacker.

Police say no other injuries were reported and additional details on the stabbing were unavailable.

Rice, a Bowling Green resident who will be a freshman at nearby Western Kentucky University this fall, said she isn’t sure whether she’ll return to the church for services soon.

“It’s scary, but in today’s society this can happen anywhere”, said one church goer.
