Whether she becomes the final “American Idol” victor or not, Sonika seems poised for some kind of stardom, especially if this last gasp “Farewell Season” gets more attention than the past few largely ignored years.
“If you just look at the amount of records sold”, as well as the number of Grammy and other awards won and the fame achieved by those associated on the show, current judge Harry Connick Jr. posited, “it’s a powerhouse”.
Despite it being her third trip to “American Idol”, Laurel Wright was feeling the pressure when she auditioned on the show that aired Wednesday night.
American Idol 2016 still has its credibility for fishing out potentially great singers, and various musical oddities which have been long trademarks for the show.
It didn’t hurt that “American Idol” had a ton of farewell hype, reunion performances and a Kanye West/Kim Kardashian audition spoof last night.
“I love it, I love it a lot”, Lopez said. She sang a stunning rendition of “Creep” by Radiohead.
“You at home decide who will become the next American idol, ” intoned Ryan Seacrest. Adorable! Meanwhile, Season 8 victor Kris Allen sneaks into the bathroom to see who’s practicing, and he surprises a young guy by joining in on a duet. The contestants consist of former auditioners who didn’t quite make the cut, along with singers who have been dreaming of being a part of the show their entire lives.
Before the judges handed Tristan – whom Jennifer said reminds her of Alicia Keys – her golden ticket to Hollywood, Harry read aloud an email the contestant’s mother Amy wrote to her before the audition.

Brook Sample, a 28-year-old waitress, was nervous when she first walked into the audition room, but that snazzy energy disappeared the second she opened her mouth to sing “Cold Day In July” by The Dixie Chicks. “You took this famous Andrew Lloyd Weber song and sang it like you wanted to sing it”, Connick said.
