Sonny Dykes takes shot at Jameis Winston in praising Jared Goff
But even the world’s budding global scientists must be noticing what’s happening on Saturdays. Some people blew their assignments and should’ve blitzed or they shouldn’t have.

“It would look a lot like Jared”, said his coach/whisperer, Sonny Dykes. The Golden Bears haven’t been to a Rose Bowl since 1958 and still are best known for using a marching band as interference to beat Stanford and John Elway a generation ago.
Dykes talked about Goff’s future with Thayer Evans and Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated. “I think our guys were embarrassed”.
Dykes was relieved to get out of Texas with a win after the Longhorns scored 20 consecutive points over the last 13:24. But the takeaway was the emergence of Goff on a mass-eyeballs stage.
The wide-eyed Cal quarterback shouted some things that can’t be reprinted here, ran a hand through his hair, put on his helmet and just kept on yelling. Goff failed to throw a touchdown pass against Washington last season. September .
He was stunned, like everyone else, by the missed extra point. Heard completed 20-of-31 passes for 364 yards. And the double-overtime win against Colorado.
His most interesting reaction, though, concerned the late Texas comeback. “We hung in there and made some plays down the stretch”. Consider it a sizable motivational breakthrough. And he has a great comfort level with his receivers. I wonder who that could be referring to? He gets it out really fast.
-S Damariay Drew was helped off the field in the first half and played sparingly in the second half after suffering a foot injury against Texas.
Taylor likes his own guy just as much. He can make all the throws.
Texas basically can choose to do one of two things. “You don’t have to worry about all that with him”.
Can Cal win the special teams battle? “I wouldn’t trade him for any other quarterback in college football”.
Is Cal’s Jared Goff really the best quarterback in the nation, as some have suggested?
Dykes used that little comment to try to boost his player’s draft stock.
Cal is outscoring teams 54-11 this season. This week could go a long way toward selling Cal fans on their team. There can be no better endorsement for a Goff campaign than Rodgers’ words. Lasco’s status for the Washington game is unknown. “Tell my grandkids about it someday”.
Stanford’s Kevin Hogan has supplanted Goff atop the Pac-12’s quarterback rankings. If they can’t pull off an upset during that stretch, a 1-5 start to Strong’s second season looms.
Realistically, they should be thrilled with three wins in that gauntlet. In ESPN’s most recent update of the Heisman Trophy watch, Goff sits seventh in mock voting. It was his first touchdown of the season and the ninth of his career.

“I’m not thinking about any of that stuff”, Goff said. “They are both good decision-makers”. If so, who? Any ideas? He’s humble, he’s hard-working and loves football. He also added this gem: “There’s not one single skeleton in his closet. He’s never stolen crab legs, any kind of that stuff”. But paying for his takeout food more than compensates. An official’s review confirmed that nearly half of Kelly’s body was behind the original line of scrimmage and no penalty was warranted, although it also showed that at least one Rebel lineman was illegally downfield; that part of the play wasn’t reviewable.
