The new Sonos smart speaker Play:5, which is now available for preorder, is a departure from the HiFi speaker company’s previous aesthetic. The newly announced system will commence shipping on November 20 for those who reside in the US. You can set it up as a standalone speaker to bring ambient sound to your office or home, or pair it with another Play:5 for stereo sound.

“The new PLAY:5 delivers a listening experience that is closer than ever to how every track was mastered in the studio”, it’s claimed, with the speaker touting six synchronized custom-designed drivers and three mid-woofers to create smooth mids and powerful lows.

TruePlay will be rolled out later this year to the company’s Play:1, Play:3 and existing Play:5 speakers. Smart sensors make these touch controls responsive to all orientations, so the volume-up is always facing up.
