Sonowal to take oath as Assam CM on May 24; Gogoi resigns

The BJP won 60 seats on its own. It was learnt that the Sonowal ministry would have 10 members from the BJP and four each from the AGP and the BPF.
The AIADMK’s performance has also disproved several exit poll predictions which had tipped the DMK-Congress alliance to come to power.
Congress won just 22 of the state assembly’s 140 seats, with the coalition it led winning 47 altogether.
BJPs Kishore Nath defeated Independent candidate Misbahul Islam Laskar by the lowest margin of only 42 seats in Borkhola which was represented by controversial Congress MLA Rumi Nath in the outgoing assembly and she was relegated to the third position.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Naidu said the opposition party was losing power in every state due to its wrong policies. “We will identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as early possible”, he said. He said he was confident that this would create an environment where we can work together for regional growth in the northeast.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had managed to return to the state assembly for consecutive fourth term but 11 ministers of the state government had lost their constituencies.

He said Congress needs to forge unity in its units and promote new leadership in states.
