Sony announces name for virtual reality headset
With Sony, Microsoft, HTC, Samsung, Razer and Facebook all involved in this latest revolution of virtual reality, it is not surprising that the market is ready to explode with popularity. Yes, Project Morpheus does sound a lot cooler than PlayStation VR, but the new name lets the general public know exactly what this is: a VR helmet from PlayStation. There’s still no official release date for the headset which is due for release at some point in early 2016.

Finally, the Sony press conference was peppered with new game announcements, the biggest of them being in the Gravity Rush series.
The gaming firm has just officailly announced the name of their VR headset which, until now, had been known as Project Morpheus. This way, players can replay a fan-favorite game, but explore the world in 3D, allowing them to turn their head to see all kinds of surroundings and surprises.
Ars Technica reported that Sony announced the news in Japan, however, there are no changes to have been made to the headset other than its name.
There’s no telling yet if users will experience the same sort of sickening, dizzying feeling that plagues virtual reality headsets right now.
Sony has planned a week-long set of demos and activities involved around the PlayStation VR with a number of video games that will support the device.
More details on specific launch plans are expected in the following weeks/months, so both Paris Games Week and PlayStation Experience look likely for final date and price for PlayStation VR.
Sony will provide a new price for the PlayStation 4 in Japan, which is lower compared to the prices in U.S. and Europe.
PlayStation VR paves the way for Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) to compete with other companies that are already using VR on similar projects. Sony has also been working closely with third parties, along with its in-house studios, to provide some quality games on the VR platform when it releases.

Another very important thing to take care of is to get developers on board to better optimize the device for PlayStation 4 titles and beat Oculus at its own game, as currently it is lagging behind both in initiative and development.
