We got glimpses of a number of titles, featuring some huge names franchises, including VR experience offerings like Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission, Batman Arkham VR, and Final Fantasy XV.
During the Playstation press conference at E3, Sony revealed that the PSVR platform would have 50 titles for you to enjoy at launch. The headset has been available for pre-order since March, but Sony has only recently confirmed a specific release date.
At a PlayStation press event on the eve of the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, Sony Interactive Entertainment worldwide studios chairman Shawn Layden proclaimed a “seminal moment” in virtual reality.
Sony has revealed that the PlayStation VR will be released on October 13.
“Ewe need to keep reminding ourselves that you’re requiring a very different user engagement than we have seen previously”, Sony Interactive Entertainment president Andrew House said. Sony, which plans to introduce a more powerful version of the PS4 code-named PlayStation Neo, forecast total console sales will climb 13 per cent this fiscal year to 20 million units.
At this point Sony still hasn’t announced the rumoured PS4.5 system – which means those rumours of the PS4 being incapable of running PSVR may have been just bunk. These will be separate purchases, however; no games are to be bundled with the PlayStation VR hardware itself.
PlayStation VR will likely dominate the show, especially given that it launches later this year.
