While it’s great news that this update allows developers to patch in HDR, it’s also not a feature of any now available PS4 games or media apps.

The software update, version 4.00 (code-named Shingen), also offers a refreshed system UI, Folder organization, updates to the Quick Menu and Share Menu and Library improvements.
The company’s major software release comes nearly a week after the unveiling of new hardware at the PlayStation Meeting on September 7. Although the device won’t pack a 4K UHD Blu-ray player, the console will be capable of supporting 4K resolutions in games as well as HDR-capable displays. It will hit stores on November 10 and will cost $399.
The PS4 and PS4 Pro Firmware 4.00 update launched today, though its availability is likely to be staggered in order to not overwhelm Sony’s servers.
The 4.00 update adds plenty more, however.
The new firmware doesn’t just add HDR capabilities, however.
One of the things in the update that completely took me by surprise is the new Quick Menu feature for the background music. “A hint at what might have been on PlayStation 4 Pro?”, DF’s video description says. They can also customize it to access their most used features. Owners of compatible TVs will be able to select HDR in the Video Output Settings for gaming and streaming entertainment content. The left column brings the new Activity Feed with larger images and commenting or resharing options.
