The studio has acquired the rights to the pioneering astronaut’s forthcoming memoir, Endurance: My Year in Space, EW has confirmed.

Sony Pictures has bought the movie rights along with Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon, and Rachel O’Connor producing.
Sony Pictures has obtained the rights to Kelly’s “Endurance: My Year in Space and Our Journey to Mars”, co-written with Margaret Lazarus Dean, which is scheduled to be published November 7, 2017, by Alfred A. Knopf. The book will chronicle his early struggles as a C-student, his training as a Navy test pilot and the highly competitive drive he and his identical twin brother underwent to become astronauts.
The life story of Scott Kelly, who set the record for accumulating the highest number of days spent in space by an American astronaut, is headed to the big screen. Consulting on the movie are Margaret Lazarus Dean, the co-writer of Endurance, and former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who is married to Mark Kelly. Laura Quicksilver will oversee for The Cantillon Company. Giffords will act as consultant, as will Dean. Sony-based Cantillon produced Will Smith’s “Concussion” and is producing the upcoming reboot of “Charlie’s Angels”. In addition to being an awesome astronaut, Kelly also participated in a twin study for NASA, along with his identical twin brother Mark Kelly.

The Endurance deal was negotiated by UTA on behalf of Scott Kelly and NY publishing agent Elyse Cheney, who negotiated the book deal.
