Still, Sony’s VR headset (even with the more expensive and necessary bundle) is a cheaper experience than competing products, like the Oculus Rift (starting at $599) and the HTC Vive (starting at $799).

Speaking to TechInsider, an unnamed Sony rep sitting in on an interview with PlayStation’s Shuhei Yoshida said that a bundle that comes with the PlayStation VR headset, Camera and Move motion controller would be launching in North America.

The PlayStation VR will display games at a 5.7-inch OLED 1080p display, running at up to 120 frames per second. Now already in its fourth iteration, it is nice to hear that Sony has just announced the pricing details of its PlayStation VR. So if you already own a PlayStation camera and move controllers you can hold off for now.

Developers EA, Dice and film studio Lucasfilm are working on a new Star Wars virtual reality experience exclusively for PlayStation VR, it was revealed.

The PlayStation VR will work with 50 games when it launches, Sony says, and will have a cinematic mode for viewing movies, television shows, and non-VR games.

Andrew House, head of Sony’s gaming division, unveiled the PlayStation VR’s price and availability during a press event at the GDC in San Francisco, where virtual reality gaming counterpart Oculus Rift announced its headset a day earlier.

Now that all of the big three contenders in the VR space have announced price points and release dates, it will be interesting to see how things shake out, especially with as much $200 differences in price.

PlayStation UK has confirmed on Twitter that the device will require use of the PS Camera, which is not included in the PS VR purchase and being sold separately for $59.99. Canadian PlayStation gamers can also pre-order the bundle for $699 CAD.
