Sony has released the Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA update for the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 smartphones and tablets. Additionally, several other devices will be getting the Lollipop treatment in the near future.
It’s always good to hear of operating system updates for devices and if you have a device in the Sony Xperia Z2 or Xperia Z3 lineups this news should interest you. Thus, whether you see the over-the-air update will depend largely on which network operator you do business with, as well as your region.
Sony Japan has officially confirmed that the OTA update of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware will come to the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z3 smartphones and their variants by the end of this month.
“‘Sony’s Android™ concept’ is a new initiative for Sony users that have a passion for innovation and the latest technology”. The trial is limited to only Xperia Z3 owners with Windows PCs in Sweden. Thankfully, it looks like the company has some refreshed software in the works. The trial starts on July 27 and lasts through September 13, so we’ll probably get a look at Sony’s new software next week. Those who wish to participate may do so by signing up through the Sony Android Concept’s website.

What do you think? Android Authority pointed out that Sony Mobile may have chose to launch the Sony Android Concept exclusively in Sweden since its research and development department is located there. The report claimed that the two new Android-powered smartphones will be named the Xperia S60 and the Xperia S70. Maybe this is what Sony needs to pick up sales and brand recognition.
