Sony Xperia X Premium tipped to feature world’s first HDR screen

It is believed that the Sony Xperia Z6 will be coming in with a 5.2inch display screen and that the device will be fitted with 64GB of internal storage. There’s no official announcement or confirmation yet but the Sony Xperia X Premium will be the equivalent of last year’s Z5 Premium. There’s no more Z6 as expected but Sony introduced a replacement in the form of the Xperia X series.

It seems the X Premium’s display will offer 1000 nits of white brightness, and will be able to go up to a maximum brightness of 1300 nits.

The report elaborates that the Xperia X Premium’s display could boast up to 1.07 billion colors, way more than the 16.8 million color depth seen on high-end devices seen these days.

The Xperia X Premium will be the successor to the Xperia Z5 Premium, which was the first smartphone to offer a 4K display. The Xperia X might not be as powerful as the Samsung Galaxy S7 but it is good enough to handle a heavy application easily.

The Xperia X Premium will reportedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with Adreno 530 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It is also said to feature a USB Type-C port and a fingerprint sensor.

Sony, however, is being relatively quiet and is releasing very limited information about the device. The Xperia X Premium is said to be its upgraded version, this time with an HDR display.

High-dynamic range (HDR) is becoming a hot new trend in display technology and Sony is jumping on the bandwagon. So far, HDR has been reserved only for televisions and monitors, greatly improving the image quality and color reproduction.
