The Xperia Z5 is available for purchase for $600 at all the key resellers while the Xperia Z5 Compact costs only $500 outright. “The phone specifications include a 5.2” 1080p IPS screen, a Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM, a 2900mAh battery all into a 7.3 mm frame.

In case you don’t remember, Sony had announced a whole list of devices in June 2015 that would be getting the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. The phone is backed by a 2,900mAh battery and both devices run on Android 5.1. However, it was not as unfortunate as Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra which were already announced disqualified for Marshmallow.

According to unconfirmed sources, Sony is planning to reduce customizations to pave the way for the default UI provided by Android because of its preference among consumers.

With support for Google Now on Tap feature and Android Pay mobile payment system, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is supposed to ship with refreshed app permissions and new fingerprint APIs for developers. At the same time, other Xperia devices that are eligible for the update are also expected to start receiving the firmware in the coming weeks.

Sony is yet to officially confirm the rollout details of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Xperia Z5 handsets.

Given that Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact are offered without a contract, they are priced accordingly.

Kunihiko Shiomi, president of Sony Mobile Communications North America, sums it up perfectly when he said: “Building a stable business in the US market continues to be an important area of focus in helping Sony Mobile pursue profit by optimizing business scale”. This would also mean that the next Nexus phone could be based on the Xperia Z5.
