After weeks of speculation from the music industry and punters who had bought tickets to the nine-year-running festival, promoter AJ Maddah has finally announced the cancellation of Soundwave 2016.

The event – which has run for 12 years – is no more.

Melvin wrote. Festival boss AJ Maddah is keeping quiet for now, but confirmed Soundwave is in “a bad situation” because of problems with cash advances to pay the bands.

Australia’s Soundwave festival has been cancelled little more than a month before it was due to get underway.

“I wish we could have ended it on a better note”.

Despite Maddah announcing refunds would be available from point of purchase, confused and frustrated fans were getting the opposite message from ticket seller Eventopia. I’m waiting on Eventopia/Ticketek to make their decision.

In part it read, “Customers should contact the Promoter of the Festival to directly request their ticket refund in full…”.

One irate fan, Katey Taylor made her feelings known to Eventopia, ” @eventopia by law YOU NEED TO REFUND US ITS LAW.

Throughout the onsale period, Eventopia complied with all of its obligations under its ticketing services agreement with the Soundwave Festival Promoter, Hounds of Hell Pty Ltd. The fest was slated to roll into Australia’s three biggest cities (Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) in late January, with headliners including Disturbed, the Prodigy and Deftones.
