South Africa eye improved show to clinch series

Cape Town – Proteas skipper AB de Villiers says they simply did not put enough runs on the board in the second ODI against New Zealand in Potchefstroom on Sunday.

South Africa were in a serious spot of bother at 107 for five after 24 overs.

De Villiers earlier won the toss and elected to bat first, but his side could only muster a meagre 204 all out, with Farhaan Behardien’s 70 the only score to write home about.

After a nervous start – he was dropped three times before reaching 40 – he settled down in a 134-ball knock which featured nine fours and three sixes. “South Africa are a very good side”.

But New Zealand’s bowling effort wasn’t only about Bracewell.

That New Zealand got into a position of strength was courtesy the efforts of Doug Bracewell, who led a disciplined bowling performance as the South African batsmen failed to come to terms with a two-paced pitch.

Guptill shared strong partnership of 126 runs with Tom Latham and 67 runs with George Worker to guide the visitors to victory. After three or four overs we turned to plan B. The way the guys executed it was fantastic.

The live streaming will be hosted on CSA’s website, www.cricket.co.za and will be free of charge to fans living in New Zealand only.

Latham made an impressive 64 off 81 balls before he was caught at deep square-leg off Imran Tahir.

Adam Milne took 2-39 to back up Bracewell after South Africa opted to bat first on a slow wicket at Senwes Park.

Guptill said the latest win was a further reflection of the depth and attitude developing at the top level of the New Zealand game and the challenge now was to complete the job in Durban before returning to New Zealand for a summer that features clashes against Australia. Guptill was awarded the man of the match for his unbeaten century.
