Geiselman’s brother said in a Facebook post Monday that Geiselman is recovering and “getting back to his senses” with a photo of Geiselman with sensors stuck to his chest in a hospital bed.
Thankfully for Geiselman, two-time world bodyboarding champion Botha had just kicked out of a wave nearby and immediately went looking for him under the surface.
Fanning heads out to help.
Fanning hit the headlines in July after he fought off a great white shark while competing in South Africa.
Fanning punched the shark and friend Julian Wilson, also his opponent in the final, paddled over to help.
Surfing website theinertia.com quoted Dashel Pierson as saying that Geiselman was floating face-down in the water when Botha reached him.
Surfer Evan Geiselman was rescued by athletes and surfers, including Mick Fanning, after a near catastrophic wipeout at Hawaii’s infamous Pipeline surf break.
“In the heavy shorebreak they were met by lifeguards, as well as surfers (including) Mick Fanning… and a handful of others”, Tomlinson said.
Geiselman, of Florida, eventually regained consciousness after he was brought to shore. He was later taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
